  • The island of Rota is a quiet island just 30 miles north of Guam and is the southernmost of the Mariana Island chain. It is known for its rugged beauty, isolated beaches and clear water. Scuba diving is done is large bays and along the shoreline. One very popular spot is Senhanom Cave, which juts deep into the Wedding Cake Peninsula and has a shaft of light making it seem like an underwater cathedral. Rota is approximately 10.5 miles long and 3 miles wide with a 38.3 mile coastline encompassing an area of 32.8 square miles. The highest elevation is Mt. Manira at 1,625 feet. The principal community is Songsong. About 3,000 people live on this scenic island. It is known as the "friendly island" and all drivers wave or gesture to one another. Sasanaya Bay joinns Rota's bird sanctuary as a haven for sea birds and sea life. FestPac 2016 Museum Images by Tim Rock
